Juanita (Berry) Painter
Juanita (Berry) Painter - Mt. Vernon, MO, 85, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2010 in her home.  She was born July 24, 1925, in Aurora to Ruben and Lutisha Baker Berry.  She was a retired telephone operator.
    Survivors include one son, Bert Painter, Mt. Vernon, one daughter, Freddie Riley, Mt. Vernon, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren.
     Graveside services were Thursday, Nov. 11, in Maple Park Cemetery, Aurora, under the direction of Peterson Funeral Chapel, Aurora, MO.

Lee Gilbert - Obituary

Lee Gilbert

     Lee Gilbert, 79, Springfield, formerly of Nevada, passed away Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at Cox South, Springfield, Mo.  He was born June 28, 1932, in Quincy to Louis Houston and Della Rose Frala Gilbert.
     He married Wanda R. Cross Nov. 26, 1949, in Kansas City.  She survives.
     Lee was raised in St. Clair County and graduated from Osceola High School in 1949.  He served in the 10th Infantry Division of the United States Army from 1952 to 1954, during the Korean Conflict.
     Lee and Wanda resided in Nevada for more than 20 years and have resided in Springfield for the past 14 years.  Lee worked in banking his whole life, having worked for the Bank of Osceola, Tri-County State Bank, El Dorado Springs and First Finance Company in Nevada.  He later operated banks in Golden City, Leadville, Colo., and several banks in southwest Missouri which now operate as Mid-Missouri Bank.  Lee was a member of the Missouri Bankers Association, having received his 50-year Banker Award, and the American Bankers Association.  He was currently serving as trustee for the Finis Moss Trust and was a member of the Highland Springs Country Club in Springfield, MO.
     Survivors in addition to his wife, Wanda, include two daughters, Stephanie Gilbert, Lebanon, MO and Elizabeth Gilbert, Ozark, MO; two grandchildren, Brian Riedy and his wife Kristin, Springfield, MO and Jennifer Riedy, Kansas City, Mo; two great-grandchildren, Davis Lee Riedy and Paige Elizabeth Riedy; and several nieces and nephews.
     He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Phyllis Ann Gilbert; one sister, Jewell Higgins; and two brothers, Edgar Gilbert and Russell Gilbert.
     Services were Monday Oct. 10, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Bill Platt officiating, interment was in Newton Burial Park, Nevada.
     Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home.

Larry Coe Prater

     Larry Coe Prater, 72, Wichita, Kan., formerly of Miller, MO died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at his home, after a long illness.  He was the son of Coe and Kathryn Prater.
     He was a graduate of Miller High School and Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, KS and was a retired registered addiction specialist.
     Survivors include his wife, Erika; three daughters, Pilar Clark, Wichita, and Laura Prater and Kathy Lee, both of Victoria, Kan.; and one brother, Neill Prater, Bolivar, MO.
     No services are planned.

     Edgar McCracken, 87, Aurora, MO died Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, in his home. He was born Sept. 10, 1924, in Thief River Falls, Minn., to Charles and Anna Peterson McCracken.
     Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; one son, Mike McCracken Sr., Farmington, Minn.; and three grandchildren.
   No services were planned.  Arrangements were under the direction of Peterson Funeral Chapel, Aurora.

Flora L. Freeman, 77, Springfield, MO died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at Maranatha Lodge, Springfield, MO.  She was born March 1, 1934, in Aurora, MO to George and Ollie (Howerton) McCullah.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Freeman.
     Survivors include three children, Sharon Jodie Traw, Strafford, MO, Carol Buckner, Republic, MO and Gary Freeman, Henderson, Nev.; one brother, Robert McCullah, Lawson; one grandson; and one great-grandson.
     Services were Saturday, Oct. 8, at Maranatha Chapel, Springfield, MO with Chaplain Darryl Paddock officiating.  Burial was in Rivermonte Memorial Gardens, Springfield, MO under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield, MO

Elisa Eckard, 53, Verona, MO died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, in St. John's, Springfield, MO.  She was born March 20, 1958, in Ventura, Calif., to Thomas and Louise Ruggles Cotner.
     Survivors include her husband, Rick; one son, Samuel Eckard; her mother, Louise; and one brother, Warren Cotner.
     Memorial services were Saturday, Oct. 8, in the Verona First Baptist Church under the direction of Peterson Funeral Chapel, Aurora, MO.

     Andrew Jason-Paul Carr, 22, Halltown, MO died at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011.  He was born May 11, 1989, in Las Vegas, Nev.  He previously attended Miller High School and worked in construction.
     Survivors include his parents, Tammy and Gary Adams, South Greenfield, MO; three brothers, Tyler Carter, Preston Adams and Tommy Griffin; his adopted parents, Diane and Steven Hembree, Halltown, MO; maternal grandparents Dan Coddington, Balsam Lake, Wis., and Claudette and Pat Davis, Mesa, Ariz.; maternal great-grandparents Carl and Erma Coddington, Balsam Lake, and paternal grandparents Francis and Dorthy Adams, South Greenfield, MO.
     Memorial services were Sunday, Oct. 9, at the home of Tammy and Gary Adams in South Greenfield, under the direction of Morris-Leiman-Mosher Funeral Home, Miller, MO.

Clygenia H. "Ty" Bryan

     Clygenia H. "Ty" Bryan, 84, Aurora, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, in the Aurora Nursing Center, Aurora.  She was born Aug 1, 1927, in Rogers, Ark., to Jesse Clyde and Hortense (Adams) Brashears.
     She was a longtime resident of Republic and was a member of the Republic First Christian Church.
     She was preceded in death by one daughter, Susan Lynch; and one sister, Patricia Ivey.
     Survivors include two sons, Steve Bryan, Aurora, and Rick Bryan, Billings; Six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
     Graveside services were Friday, Oct. 7, in Oakley Chapel Cemetery, Rogers, Ark., with the Rev. Melissa St. Clair officiating, under the direction of Meadors Funeral Home, Republic.
     Memorial contributions may be made to the Republic First Cnirstian Curch youth group.

Benjamin Thomas Birmingham - Obituary

Benjamin Thomas Birmingham 

Benjamin Thomas "Ben" Birmingham, 84, Marionville, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, in his home.  He was born June 1, 1927, in Fulton, Ky., to Monroe Reed and Mary Lula Phillips Birmingham.
     He married Viva Rose Nov. 15, 1946, in Flint, Mich.  She died Jan. 10, 2008.  He was also preceded in death by three brothers, James Thomas Birmingham, John Reed Birmingham and Robert Nathan Birmingham; five sisters, Minnie Agnus Watts, Lenna May Smith, Velma Lee Sikking, Annie Kizzie Delisie and Jenzie Lula Martin.
     He was of the Baptist faith. He retired from General Motors in Flint, Mich., and after moving to Marionville, he was employed by Williams Funeral Home.
     He was a United States Navy veteran, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 822 in Flint, and the Lions Club.  He served on the Marionville City Council, representing Ward I, from 1989 to 1995.
     Survivors include one son, David Birmingham, Thompsonville, Ill.; two daughters, Deborah Lynn Dennis, Marionville, and Ann Kerr, Grayling, Mich.; eight grandchildren,; and 23 great-grandchildren.
     Services were Monday, Oct 10, in the Williams Funeral Home Chapel, Marionville, with the Rev. Lee Miller officiating, Burial with full military honors, was i the Marionville IOOF Cemetery.
