Doralee Katholeen Stearns-Greeson, Mt. Vernon, MO - Obituary


Doralee Katholeen Stearns-Greeson
Doralee Katholeen Stearns-Greason, 95, Mt. Vernon, MO, passed away at 1:50 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012, at the Mt. Vernon Place Care Center, Mt. Vernon, MO. She was born Oct. 3, 1916, in rural Miller, MO, the daughter of Lemuel and Kittie Ann (Rice) Eubanks. Doralee lived in the Miller and Mt. Vernon communities her entire life.  She was a 1933 graduate of Miller High School and a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon.  Doralee worked for what is now known as the Missouri Rehabilitation Center as a laboratory technician, however, spent most of her years as a homemaker.  She married Leonard Allen Stearns Nov. 1, 1933, in Lawrence County.  He preceded her in death April 13, 1986.  She married Carl Greeson Nov. 29, 1993, and he preceded her in death Sept. 27, 2000.
     She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Delores Miller and her husband, Bob, of Mt. Vernon,MO, Beverley Ploth of Kansas City, MO, and Muriene Loveless of Rogers, AR; nine grandchildren, Christi (Phil) Lee, Gina (Boudy) Kroamer, Rob Miller, Cindy (Mark) Skidmore, Vicki (Jeff) Gammills, Kim Loveless, Ronnie (Debby) Loveless, Rebecca (Jeff) Evans, and Eric (Stacey) Ploth; 16 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
     She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Melvin Leon Stearns; four brothers, Paul, David, Percy and Curtis Eubanks; three sisters, Gladys Hood, Grace and Dorothy Eubanks; and a great-grandson, Christopher.
     Services were May 26 at the first Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon, MO.  Burial was at the Ozark Prairie "Brick" Presbyterian Cemetery.
     Memorial donations may be made to the Ozark Priarie Cemetery, in care of the funeral home.

James "Jim" Dean Shoemaker, 67, of Verona, MO died Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Cox South, Springfield, MO. He was born on Feb. 19, 1945, to James and Beulah "Boots" (Williams) Shoemaker.
     He was a retired farm hand.
     Survivors include two daughters, Joni Tackette, of St. Louis, MO. and Jill Worm, Mountain Grove, MO; one brother, Jerry Shoemaker, Iowa; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
     Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday June 1, 2012 at Calton Cemetery, near Monett, under the direction of Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home, Monett, MO. Memorial donations may be made to the Haven of the Ozarks, in care of the funeral home.

Helen G. McKnabb, 83, Marionville, MO, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012, in the Ozarks Methodist Manor, Marionville, MO.  She was born in Lawrence County, MO to Albert and Sarah (Belle) Ford.  She graduated from Plattsburg High School.  She was a former resident of the Ash Grove area.  She was a homemaker and a retired legal secretary with Dee Wampler Law Firm, Springfield, MO.  She was a member of the Ash Grove First Baptist Church.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil McKnabb, and daughter, Edith Bellene Lambert.
    Survivors include one son, Steven McKnabb, Arkansas; one brother, Glen Ford; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
     Services were May 24 in the Wilson-Brim-Daniel Chapel, Ash Grove, with the Rev. Gene Marcum officiating.

Gerald "Jerry" Hagen, 74, Lamar, MO, died Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Barton County Memorial Hospital, Lamar, MO.

     He was born September 8, 1937 in Ames, Iowa to George and Mary (Lindner) Hagen. He attended Ames ElementaryThorco Industries in Lamar. He  was a member of the Lamar Eagles Lodge. 
    Survivors include his wife Carolyn Hagen; four sons, Chris Hagen, Blue Springs, MO, Alex Hagen, Republic, MO, Todd Mossholder, and Michael Mossholder; two daughters, Debbie Pugh, Lamar and Jeri Miller, Mt. Vernon, MO; one brother Richard Hagen, Council Bluffs, IA; two sisters, Sharon Mott, Ames, IA and Carolyn Mehus, Waterloo, IA and 11 grandchildren, 
     He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dawn Hagen, in 1968.

Mary Ann Noel, 74, Wentworth, MO died Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Cox South, Springfield.  she was born in Barry County July 13, 1937, to Mart and Mary (Belt) Conley.  She married Edward Noel Oct. 17, 1966, in Pierce City.  He survives.
     She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pierce City, MO.
     Additional survivors include one son, Edward Noel, Oklahoma City, OK,; two daughters, Nancy Lewis, Aurora, and Virginia Cumberford, Seymour; three sisters, Edna Angyal, Monett, Dorothy Marchicao, Marion, IL, and Elizabeth Conley, Saint Elizabeth; and four grandchildren.
     Funeral Mass was March 27 in  St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pierce City, with Father Peter J. Morciniec officiating.  Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery, Pierce City, under the direction of Lakin Funeral Home, Pierce City.

Ethel Mildred Sims, 93, Aurora, MO, died at 2:15 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2012, in her home.  She was born Jan. 26, 1919, in Greenburg, Kan., to Enoch Harvey and Opal (Bradfield) Ellingboe.  She was a homemaker and worked as a bookkeeper for a manufacturing company.  She was a member of the Aurora Church of Christ.
     She married Lawrence W. Sims April 17, 1938, in Wichita, KS.  He died Jan. 6, 2000
     Survivors include one son, Edgar Sims, Tenmile, Ore.; one brother, Eugene Ellingboe, Lenexa, KS.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
     Services were March 27 in the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, Aurora, MO.

Wilmer A. Hill, 89, Springfield, MO died Friday morning, March 23, 2012, in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, MO.  He was born April 13, 1922, in Aurora to Arthur and Laurel Hill.
     He joined the United States Army Air Corps in Septermber 1942 and served until February 1946.
     He married Bettye A. Hill June 3, 1946.  She preceded him in death.
     He worked as a television repairman for 30 years.
     He was also preceded in death by one son, Micky Aaron Hill, and one sister, Virginia Tharp.
     Survivors include three sons, Toy A. Hill, Rick Hill and Steve Hill, one brother, Loren Hill, Aurora, MO, nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
     Graveside services were March 26 in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Springfield, with Dennis Barber officiating, under the direction of Klingner-Cope at White Chapel Funeral Home, Springfield, MO.

Violet Charlotte Goold, 104, died at 7:06 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2012, in her home.  She was born Dec. 13, 1907, in Cotter, AR., to William and Daisy May (Bruner) Kluge.  She graduated from Sac City High School in Iowa in 1925.  She married Virgil Goold July 31, 1927, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.  He died July 24, 1991.
     She lived in Marionville, MO for more than 50 years.  She and her husband owned and operated a hatchery and feed store on McNatt Avenue in Aurora, MO for many years.  She was a member of the Wilson Avenue Baptist Church.  After the death of her husband, she moved to Longmont, CO, in 2000, to live with her daughter.
     Survivors include one son, Vernell Goold, Weir, KS, four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
     She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Virginia Rinard; one brother, Charles Kluge; two half-brothers, Willie and Walter Kluge; and two sisters, Pearl Cole and Pansy Jackson.
     Graveside services were March 26 in Maple Park Cemetery, Aurora, under the director of Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, Aurora.

Archie Lee Gold, 83, Crane, MO, died Sunday, March 18, 2012, in the Ozark Mountain Regional Healthcare, Crane.  He was born May 7, 1928, in Stone county to Lee Austin and Josephine (Mitchell) Gold.
     He was a retired postal clerk and was a lifelong resident of the area.  He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the American Legion.  He worked as a courier and security guard at Stone county National Bank.  He had been a member of the Church of Christ, Scholten, where he was a song leader and deacon.  In later years he was a member of the Aurora Church of Christ, Aurora, MO
     He married Wanda Byrom June 21, 1955.  She died in 1988.
     He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Gold and one brother, Jay C. "Britch" Gold.
     Survivors include one daughter, Deana Benton, Battlefield; one brother, William "Silver" Gold, Crane; and two grandchildren.
     Services were March 23 in the Aurora Church of Christ with Dwight Samuel officiating.  Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Crane, under the direction of Manlove-Stumpff Funeral Home, Crane.

Larry E. Foust, 61, Monett, MO, died Sunday, March 18, 2012, at the Kansas City VA Medical Center.  He was born Aug. 7, 1950, in Monett to James and Elsie (Wiehe) Foust.  He was a truck driver.  He served in the Air Force from 1968 to 1972.

Tommy V. Edmondson, 78, Crane, died at 4:44 p.. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, in his home.  He was born Nov. 6, 1933, in Golden, MO to Bill and Bessie James Edmondson.
     He worked for more than 35 years as a printing pressman.
     He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
     Survivors include his wife, Doris; children Pat Pettit and Andy McCullough, both of Crane, MO, Oren Edmondson, Marionville, MO, rick Edmondson, Yuma, AZ, Cindy Evans, Springfield, MO and Tommy Evans, Nixa, MO; one brother Max Edmondson, Crane, MO ; the mother of his children, Charlene Edmondson, Mt. Melvin Lawrence Klushman Sr. - Obituary

Melvin Lawrence Klushman Sr.
Melvin Lawrence Klushman Sr., 79, Lockwood, MO, passed away Saturday, Feb 25, 2012.  He was born Sept. 17, 1932, in Lockwood to the late John and Mabel (Vonstroh) Klushman.  He resided in Lockwood and took great pride in working on the farm until these final days.
     In 1950, he graduated from Lockwood High School. He went into partnership with his father on the farm in 1953, he was drafted into the United States Army and spent 18 weeks in Fort Riley, S.  Afterward he was deployed to Austria, spending time at Salisburg and Linz.  He also toured different parts of Germany, Paris, London, Vienna, and Rome.
     He met the love of his life, Norma Jean Baker, at a social dance at a Lily Tulip Christmas dance in Springfield.  They were married April 1, 1959, and honeymooned in Louisiana and Florida.
     Melvin spend most of his time on the family farm south of Lockwood raising crops, cattle and hogs.  The remainder of his time, Melvin proudly served on several local community boards in the area, including 20 years on the county Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee, 20 years as Lockwood Township clerk, was elected Dade County assessor for 20 years, 15 years on the Missouri Farmers Exchange Board, four years on the extension council and also held various positions on committees at the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Good Shepherd Nursing Home Board.
     Melvin is survived by his loving wife of almost 53 years; four sons, Mel Jr. and fiancee Sharon Miller of Lockwood, MO, Phil and Starla of Kearney, MO, Ray of Lockwood, MO and Mike and Doreen Corrigan of Vestavia Hills, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Alex and husband Reuben Tourian of Weatherford, OK., Hailey Ross of Glidden, IA, Hannah Ross of Springfield, MO, Felisha Klushman and fiance Brian Weast of Kearney, MO, Andrea Klushman of Kearneyh, MO, Ben, Abby and Adam Klushman of Lamar, MO and one great-granddaughter, Ava Tourian of Weatherford, MO.
     Services were Wednesday, Feb. 29, in Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary Griffin officiating.  Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, with full military honors.  Services were under the care of Lockwood Funeral Chapel, Lockwood, MO.
     Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church building fund, or to the Good Shepherd Nursing Home Good Endings Room.

Marjorie Kathleen Deulen, 91, Nixa, MO, died Wednesday Feb. 29, 2012.  She was born Jan 5, 1921, in Christian County to Guy and Jewel (Nokes) Hedgpeth.
     She married Orville Deulen April 25, 1937.  He died in 2005.
     She was member of Calvary Bible Church.  Survivors include two children, Michael Lee Deulen, Springfield, MO and Margie Messenger, Mt. Vernon, MO; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
     She was also preceded in death by one brother, JD Hedgpeth.
     Services were March 3, in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, MO.  Burial was in Frazier Cemetery, Boaz, MO.

Annesser, 94, Joplin, died at midnight Friday, March 2, 2012, at the Sarcoxie Nursing Center, Sarcoxie, MO.  He was born Aug. 5, 1917, in Verona, MO to Charles and Kate Annesser.  He worked as a private mechanic and chauffeur for M.E. Gillioz in Monett.  He married Lucille Brown Dec. 8, 1955, in Columbus, KS.  She died Feb. 3, 2011.  He was also preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Annesser, and one brother, Ralph Annesser.
     Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Burt-Boyer, Webb City; two sons, Gene Annesser, Sikeston, MO and Larry Annesser, Diamond, MO; one stepdaughter, Marilyn Miller, Pahrump, NV.; five grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; and several great-grandchildren.

     He was a veteran of the United States Army and a salesman for Spicer and Griffith Motors, Neosho.
     He was a member of the High Street Christian Church in Neosho, MO.

     He and Betty were married Jan. 23, 1948, in Monett, MO.
     They moved to Miami in 2010.

Jessie Leigh Bridges, 25, Aurora, MO, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, MO.  She was born Feb. 21, 1986, in Claremore, Ok, to Betty (Woodard) and Joe Wayne Bridges Sr.  She was of the Catholic faith.  She volunteered at the library in Aurora, went to Camp Barnabas every year and was a member of the Knuckle Head Fan Club.
     Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Betty and Ron Haga, Aurora; and four brothers, Jamie Bridges, Aurora, MO, Joe Wayne Bridges, Jr., Camdenton, MO,  Jasin Rice, Springfield, MO and Douglas Bridges, state of Maine.
     Services were Feb. 20 at the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home, Monett, with the Rev. Charlene Dart officiating.  Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Fairview Cemetery in Vinita., Okla.

Helen Roberta Clover, 91, Marionville, formerly of Purdy, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2012, at the Ozarks Methodist Manor in Marionville, MO.  She was born May 21, 1920, in Enid, Ok, to William and Golda (Moody) Roach.
     She married Earl Clover in 1953.  He died March 29, 2006.
     She graduated from Ponca City, OK., High School in 1938 as valedictorian.  She worked at the First National Bank in Ponca City, OK.  She later worked in the patent division at the Continental Oil Company (Conoco) in Ponca City, OK for 15 years.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Purdy, MO.
     Memorial services were Feb. 15 at the Ozarks Methodist Manor.
     Services were Feb. 16 in Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home, Monett, MO with the Rev. Jerry Francisco officiating.  Burial was in the Purdy Cemetery in Purdy, MO.

Rosa Craw, 72, Verona, MO, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, in her home.  She was born Jan. 13, 1940, in Jonesboro, Ark., to George and Beulah Beason Williams.
     She was chairperson of the Lawrence County Older Adult Transportation Service from 2004 to 2010.
     Survivors include three sons, Robert Bearden II, Excelsior Springs, MO, David Bell, Willow Springs, and Ron Bell, Kansas City; one daughter, Linda Ward, Verona, MO; one brother, Joe Williams, Webb City, MO; and seven grandchildren.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce; three brothers, George, James and Bernard Williams; two sisters, Thelma Walker and Emma Tappana; and one granddaughter.
     Memorial visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.  Thursday, Feb. 23, in the Peterson Funeral Chapel, Aurora, MO.  Private burial will be in Spring River Cemetery, Verona.

Retta Jordan, 78, Aurora, MO, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, MO.  She was born July 21, 1933, in Anaheim, Calif., to Clarence and Marie Culver Wannamaker.  She was raised in California.  She and her family moved to Aurora, M in 1972.  She was a homemaker.
     Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Louis Jordan; three daughters, Nina Dresia, Miami, Okla., and Joyce Jordan and Wanda Curtis, both of Aurora, MO, one son, Wayne Jordan, Aurora, MO; one sister, Deloris Nelson, Reno, Nev.; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
     She was preceded in death by one brother, George Wannamaker; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
     Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb 22, in the Peterson Funeral Chapel, Aurora, MO.  Burial will be in Maple Park Cemetery, Aurora.

Herbert George "Herb" Richmond, 82, Mt. Vernon, MO, passed away at 4:35 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at his home.  He was born Jan. 13, 1930, in Mt. Vernon, the son of George Alley and Ethel Della (DeMott) Richmond.  Herb lived in Mt. Vernon his entire life.  He was a dairy farmer and spent most of his life playing his guitar and singing all over southwest Missouri.  He attended Summit Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.
     He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Linda; children Debbie Schnake and husband, Robert, and Randy Richmond and his wife, Dora, all of Mt. Vernon.  Keri Evatt of Purdy and Sue Ann Morgan of Exeter; his sister, Vera Overall of Mt. Vernon; eight grandchildren, Jeff Schnake and his wife, Marti, Delinda Jones, Adam and Kurt Richmond, Erik Evatt, Rayanna Fare, and Wyatt and Abby Morgan; and six great-grandchildren.
     He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Retha Richmond and Betty Stearns; and one brohter, Edd Richmond.
     Arrangements have been conducted by Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon.  A private family service will be held at a later date.

    Survivors include four sons, Bobby Snider, Salem, Ore., Roy Snider, Folsom, Calif., and Douglas Snider and Dale Snider, both of Aurora, MO; three daughters, Diane Kelton, Salem, Ore., and Sherry Morton and Cyndi Snider, both of Marionville, MO; three brothers, Richard, Chuck and Alvin Mahan; four sisters, Pauline Lancaster, Jenia Herr, Shirley Erickson and Kay Taylor; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; one daughter, Sandy Cunningham; four brothers and one sister.
     Services were Feb. 10 in the Marionville Assembly of God Church, under the direction of the Peterson Funeral Chapel, Aurora, MO.  Burial was in the Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Ore.

Billy J. Pearce Jr., 54, LaRussell, MO, died at 4:10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, MO.  He was born Dec. 6, 1957, in Harrisonville to Billy J. Sr. and Shirley D. (Jones) Pearce.  He was a longtime LaRussell resident and was a logger.
     He married Donna "Donnel" Pearce March 20, 1976, in Reeds.  She survives.
     Additional survivors include one son, Billy J. Pearce III, LaRussell; two daughters, Melissa Pippin, LaRussell, and Tabatha Meaker, Seneca; two brothers, Charles Edward Pearce, Sarcoxie, and Dale Martin Pearce, Stotts City; and five grandchildren.

Charlotte E. Coyner, 67, Springfield, MO, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at Mercy Hospital, Springfield.
     She was a 1962 graduate of Aurora High School.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, Hurschel and Ottie Coyner; two brothers, Robert and Norman Coyner; and one sister, Lois Szabo.
     Survivors include five children, Catherine Hukill, Stephen Hukill, Peggy Stines, Karen Jacobs and Carla Hukill; one brother, Joseph Coyner; one sister, Carol Hess; and two granddaughters.
     Her ashes will be privately buried with her parents in Maple Park Cemetery, Aurora, MO.  Arrangements are under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home, Springfield.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.

     She worked in the Department of Corrections in New York.  After moving to Missouri she worked in the office of Dr. Nagel in Joplin.
     She attended St. Susanne Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon.
     Survivors include her twin sister, Linda Bailey, Mt. Vernon.

Vernon, MO, passed away at 4:45 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, in her home.  She was born April 29, 1940, in Crawford County, the daughter of James Logan and Myrtle Lula (Bryant) Harris.  Doris was a homemaker and a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Republic.  She married Harold Kenneth Hubert Jan. 19, 1957, in Cherryville.  He preceded her in death Aug. 2, 2004.
     She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her one daughter, Lisa Hubert of Hollister; five sons, Kenneth Hubert, Steve Hubert and his wife, Candy, Bob Hubert, David Hubert and his wife, Rosie, all of Mt. Vernon, MO and Jeff Hubert and his wife Jennifer, of Billings, MO; three sisters, Wilma Doyle of Cuba, MO, Shirley Henry and Dana Harris of Monett, MO; three brohters, Alfred Harris and Albert Harris, of Mt. Vernon, and Wayne Harris of Purdy, MO; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Zelma Smith, Norma Davis, Reba Carter and Flora Harris; and one brother, Richard Harris.
     Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb, 15, in the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, MO.  Burial will be at the Mt. Vernon 100F Cemetery.

Howard Robbins, 85, Aurora, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, in his home.  He was born Oct. 24, 1926, in Barry County to Leonard and Betty Garner Robbins.  He retired from Carnation Milk plant in Mt. Vernon and was a retired veteran of the United States Army.
     Survivors include his wife, Velma; one son, Jerald Robbins, Monett, MO; one daughter, Janie Cochran, Marionville, MO; one brother, Junior Robbins, California; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Glen Robbins.
  Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in the Peterson Funeral Chapel, Aurora.  Burial, with full military honors, will be in Summit Cemetery, Mt. Vernon, MO.

Connie Hunt, 58, Neosho, died at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at Lawrence County Manor, Mt. Vernon, MO.  She was born Feb. 21, 1953, in Joplin, Mo, and had lived in the Joplin area most of her life.
     She married Gary Hunt Dec. 6, 1986, in Miami, Okla.  He survives.
     Additional survivors include four children, Angela, Laura, Brent and T.J.; one sister, Kathy Landreth; her grandmother Mary; and three granddaughters.
     Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday Feb. 15, at Hornet Cemetery, with the Rev. Bob Simon officiating, under the direction of Parker Mortuary Chapel, Joplin.

Stephen Michael Howerton, 44, Monett, died Thursday Jan. 5, 2012, at his home.  He was born Sept. 25, 1967, in Monett, MO to John and Kathy (Owens) Howerton. He married Diane Long Sept. 26, 2006.  She survives.
     He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
     Additional survivors include one son, Derek Sooter, Webb City, MO; one daughter, Toni Sooter, Monett; his parents, John and Kathy Howerton, Monett; two stepsons, Jeffrey Davis, Monett, and Jared Ballard, Grove, Okla.; one brother, Eddie Howerton, Monett; and two sisters, Tina Sebastian, Monett, and Margaret Howerton, Verona, MO.
     Services were Jan. 9, in the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Chapel in Monett with the Rev. Ronnie Howerton officating.  Burial was at Bethel Cemetery in Monett.

J. Barton Burson, Mt. Vernon, MO Obituary

J. Barton Burson
J. Barton Burson, 84, Mt. Vernon, passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at the Lawrence County Manor residential care facility in Mt. Vernon.  He was born Dec. 8, 1927, in Avilla, MO to John O. and Nellie Burson.  He was preceded in death by wife Mary Alice in 1978, and wife Ruth in 1998.  He was also preceded in death by sisters Bernice Shelton and Mary Sue Dickerson and bother John Burson.
     J.B. is survived by Virginia Payne, former wife and mother of his children, and by former wife Rozell Porter.  He is also survived by sister Ruth Sherrel, Marianna, Fla., and brother Gerye Burson, Blue Springs, MO; and by children, Max Burson, Wichita, Kan., Barton Burson, Los Alamos, N.M., Ryan Burson, Washington DC., Mary Jensen, Overland Park, Kan., and Ken Burson, Jefferson City; 13 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
     Except for his time serving in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1947, and attending college at Missouri State University and Drury University in Springfield, he lived and worked in Mt. Vernon, MO all his life.
     He began his career at First National Bank in 1948, rising to the office of president of the bank in 1972.  He retired from the bank in 1992.
     Over the years, J.B. was involved with a number of civic organizations, including the American Legion and the Lions Club.  He served for a time as city treasurer and served on the Mt. Vernon City Council in the late 1990s.  He was an active member on the boards of the IOOF Cemetery and the Mt. Vernon High School Alumni Scholarship Foundation and a longtime member of the Mt. Vernon Golf Association.
     In recent years, J.B. devoted a lot of his time renovating and remodeling many homes in Mt. Vernon.  He enjoyed playing golf, reading, wood-working, planting trees, feeding the birds and squirrels and spending time with family and friends.
     Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon.  Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Jack Daniel officiating.
     Memorial contributions may be made to the Barry=Lawrence Regional Library and the Mt. Vernon High School Class of '45 Scholarship Fund.

Una Marie Schmidly, 91, Mt. Vernon, MO passed away at 9:55 a.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, MO.  She was born Nov. 22, 1920, in Sarcoxie, MO, the daughter of Elmer J. and Frances C. (Palmer) Long.  Una grew up in the Sarcoxie area and attend Sarcoxie Schools.  On April 2, 1939, she married Arthur W. Schmidly in Sarcoxie.
     She moved to Mt. Vernon in 1966 and pastored, alongside her husband, A.W. Schmidly, at the Mt. Vernon Assembly of God Church on the Loop for 19 years.  She and her husband pastored six churches over a period of 42 years.  She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 72 years, Arthur, of the home; three sons, Bill and Carol Schmidly and Ron and Janice Schmidly, all of Mt. Vernon, and Jim and Sandy Schmidly of Springfield, MO, seven grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Freeda Timm, Beatrice Archer and Bertha Clark; and four brothers, Roy, Clyde, Cecil and Lloyd Long.
     Services were Jan. 6 in the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, with burial at the Harvey Cemetery near LaRussell, MO.

     She graduated from Central Senior High School, Springfield, MO in 1960 and married Lloyd Smith in Miller, MO.  He died July 10, 1979.  She was also preceded in death by one sister, Irene Wimsatt.
     Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, in Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield, MO.  Burial will be in Bass Chapel Cemetery, northeast of Springfield.  An open visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, in the funeral home.

Rayetta (Cantrell) Beyer, 92, Billings, MO died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, in the Aurora Nursing Center, Aurora.  She was born May 24, 1919, in Neosho, MO to William Raymond and Etta Mae (Bodine) Cantrell.
     She married the Rev. Fred W. Beyer March 25, 1939.  He preceded her in death.
     She was a junior high teacher at the New Baden and Steger, Ill., schools.  She was a member of the Aurora Presbyterian Church and had a longtime affiliation with the St. Peters United Church of Christ in Billings.
     She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Judith Ann Arnott; and two siblings, Juanita Stroud and Bill Cantrell.
     Survivors include one son, John Beyer, Billings; three grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
     Services were Jan. 6 in the St. Peters UCC, with the Rev. Lansford Lawrence officiating.  burial was in the St. Peters Cemetery, Billings, MO under the direction of Meadors Funeral Home, Billings.

Elsie Allen, 87, Monett, MO, formerly of Pierce City, died Wednesday evening, Jan. 4, 2012, at the Ozarks Community Hospital in Springfield, MO.  She was born April 7, 1924, in Mt. Vernon, MO to Rodney Dale and Sarah Jane (Williams) Kirby.  She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1943.  She was a lifelong resident of the area, having resided in Pierce City for more than 30 years before moving to Monett, MO.  She and her husband owned and operated Allen's Pump Service.  She was a member of the community of Christ Church in Aurora.
     She married William Harrison Allen March 25, 1946, in Lawrence County.  He survives.
     Additional survivors include one son, Chester Allen, Asheville, N.C.; one daughter, Brenda Conn, Aurora, MO; one sister, Luella Baker, Alameda, Calif.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
     Memorial services were Jan. 7 at the Buchanan Funeral Home Chapel, Monett, with the Rev. Bruce Larson officiating.
