Arthur L. "Art" Campbell
Arthur L. "Art" Campbell, 85, Iowa City, Iowa, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, at Iowa City Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.  He was born Sept. 26, 1926, in Biswabik, Minn. to George and Louise (Forte) Campbell.  He grew up in Eveleth, Minn.  He married Joyce Ahern May 24, 1952, in Clarinda, Iowa.  She survives.
     He served in the United States Army Air Force from 1943 to 1946, during World War II.  He received his bachelor's degree from St. Cloud Teachers College; a master's degree from Colorado State College, and continued graduate studies at Northwestern University and the University of Iowa.
     He was a science teacher for 36 years, teaching at schools in Downers Grove, Ill., Worthington, Minn, Iowa City High School and the last 20 years at English Valley High School, retiring in 1991.
     He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside, Iowa, and the Iowa City American Legion.  He served a term on the Iowa City Board of Education from 1967 to 1971 and was vice president of Red Ball Engineering.
     Additional survivors include his children, Coreen Brown, Mt. Vernon, MO, Carey Campbell Milwaukee, Ore., Sean Campbell, Fort Worth, Texas,  Brian Campbell, Winter Park, Fla., and Todd Campbell, Stanwood, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
     He was preceded in death by one son, Kevin, and one brother, George.
     Funeral Mass was Tuesday, Nov. 29, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside, with the Rev. Martin Goetz officiating.  Burial was in St. Stanislaus Cemetery,  near Riverside, under the direction of Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City.
     Memorial donations may be made to Iowa City Hospice or the St. Mary's Building Fund.
