Joe Vaughn Nelson
Joe Vaughn Nelson, 84, Pierce City, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at his residence. He was born Aug. 1, 1925, in Galena to Samuel and Ula Elizabeth (Scott) Nelson. He served in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged Feb. 10, 1945. He was a self-employed carpenter. Survivors include his wife of more than 26 years, Patsy (Shiflet) Nelson; one son, Joe Lynn Nelson, Pierce City; three daughters, Sharon Durkin, Monett, Marilyn Moss, Rogers, Ark., and Marsha Chapman, Miller; three sisters, Betty Lou Land, Monett, Eva Mae McLean, Post Falls, Idaho, and Marie Vantuyl, El Mirage, Ariz.; one brother, Charlie Nelson, Monett; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Graveside services were Monday, Dec. 21, at the Pierce City Cemetery under direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
Stanley Ness
Stanley Ness, 66, Freistatt, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at Cox Monett. He was born June 14, 1942, in Steelville to Wayne and Mary Schoonover Ness. He was a retired postal worker and farmer. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He married Joyce Doss June 3, 1970, in Freistatt. She survives. Additional survivors include one daughter, Erin Marie Ness, San Antonio, Texas; his mother, Mary Ness, Cook Station; two brothers, Dewey Ness and Larry Ness, both of Cook Station; and two sisters, Frances Malone, Salem, and Ruth Asher, St. James. He was preceded in death by one brother, Gary Ness. Services were Saturday, Dec. 27, at Buchanan Funeral Chapel, Monett, with Wilbur Claude officiating. Burial was in Monett IOOF Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Freistatt Rural Fire Department.
Homer E. Nicholas Sr.
Homer E.. Nicholas Sr., 68, Verona, died at 4:25 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2010, at his home.  He was born Jan. 17, 1942, in Talihina, Okla., to Claude and Pearl (Benton) Nicholas.  He married Linda Rebensdorf Feb. 20, 1960, in Fowler, Calif., where they lived until moving to Socorro, N.M.  She survives. 
     He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the federal government Bureau of Reclamation, retiring in 1997 and moving to Verona.
     Additonal survivors include five children, Nicki Mealer and Rhonda Davis, both of Verona, Dwayne Nicholas and Barbara Nicholas, both of Noel, and Homer Nicholas Jr., Aurora; two sisters, Vivian Radanovich and Billie Simmons of California; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Nicholas; and three sisters, Maudell Morgan, Ruth Flatt and Wanda Nicholas.
     Memorial services were Tuesday, July 20, at the family home.  Arrangements are under the direction of Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, Aurora.

Julia Inez Nichols

Julia Inez Nichols, 73, Sarcoxie, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at her home.
She was born Jan. 13, 1935, in Stigler, OK, to Elzie and Ethel (Jones) Dunn.
Her childhood years were spent in the Stotts City area. She was a 1953 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School.
She married Robert Albert Nichols Nov. 23, 1957 in rural Jasper County.
He died June 2, 1994.
She was a seamstress for Juvenile Shoe and later for Justin Boot, retiring in 1986 after 33 years of service.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Margie Crossland, and one grandson. Survivors include two daughters, Shelley LaTurner, Scammon, KS, and Theresa Youngblood, Sarcoxie; two sons, Ron Nichols, Diamond and Don Nichols, Sarcoxie; three sisters, Juanita Cain, Oklahoma City, OK and Mary Ann Smith and Sue Freeman, both of Omaha, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were Friday, Nov. 14, in Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home, Sarcoxie with Chaplain Danny Mullins officiating. Burial was in VanBuren Cemetery, Wentworth.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, in care of the funeral home.

Nola Pearl Nichols
Nola Pearl Nichols, 91, Aurora, died at 4:20 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, in Aurora Nursing Center.
She was born May 8, 1916, in Barry County to William Walter and Oma Elizabeth (Mullins) Friend.
She worked as a clerk for Oak Park Pharmacy for more than 17 years, plus years at Wooten and Hughes pharmacies. She was a member of the Morning Star Baptist Church in Crane.
She married Glen Steven Nichols in Cassville June 19, 1933. He died June 14, 1992. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Oda Hudson, Fern Korn, Grace Stark and Alice Fillmore; and three brothers, Allen, Alfred and Gene Friend.
Survivors include one son, Joe Nichols, St. Charles; one daughter, Montra Logan, Olathe, Kan.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were Tuesday, Nov. 20, in Morning Star Baptist Church, Crane, with burial in the Osa Cemetery, under direction of Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, Aurora.
Billy Joe Nicholson


Billy Joe Nicholson, 68, Miller, died at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007.
He was born July 18, 1938, in Miller to Clarence Leon and Dora Ethel (Barker) Nicholson. He was a retired postal inspector for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and was a member of the Miller Lions, Eagles of Mt. Vernon, Grand Lodge AF & AM, Mt. Vernon, and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite.
He married Vickie Jenson Aug. 30, 1974, in Lancaster, Texas. She survives.
Additional survivors include three brothers, Jack Nicholson, Mt. Vernon, Jimmy Nicholson, Red Oak, Texas, and Jerry Nicholson, Miller; and six sisters, Betty Gillinghan, Tulsa, Okla., Martha Epps and Mary Lou Meyer, both of Miller, Patty Myers, Rogersville, Linda Bishop, Brownsboro, Texas, and Teresa Frank, Russell Spring, Ky. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Services were Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Round Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Wally Baldwin and Bob Wright officiating. Burial with full military honors, was in Grays Point Cemetery, under the direction of Morris-Leiman-Mosher Funeral Home, Miller.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Miller Lions Club Watch Fund for the valedictorian and salutatorian, in care of the funeral home.
Beverly Dionne Nieman
Beverly Dionne Nieman, 59, Lockwood, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at St. John's, Springfield.
She will be cremated. Memorial services will be held at a later date at Immanuel Lutheran Church,, Lockwood. Arrangements are under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home South, Springfield.
Memorial are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Mary Carol (Smith) Nordyke
Mary Carol (Smith) Nordyke was promoted to heaven Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007. She was born Dec. 25, 1925, in Potosi to parents Howard and Annie (Mercer) Smith. Mary accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at the age of 12. She followed her Lord in baptism in May 1937 by the First Baptist Church of Potosi. She loved her Lord and served Him faithfully until her promotion. Mary united in marriage to James Arnold Nordyke, a Baptist minister, to whom she was devoted. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Oscar and Granville, and one sister, Marie. Those who remain to mourn her passing are husband James Nordyke of Marionville; two sons, Howard (Mary) Nordyke of Republic and David (Diane) Nordyke of Vine Grove, Ky; one daughter, Carol (Sidney) Smith of Miller; two sisters, Lena Smith of Potosi and Patricia (Robert) Moore of Pueblo, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. We all rejoice knowing she is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. "The wonderful promise of eternal bliss which belongs to those who love God is now hers forever." Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, in Meadors Funeral Home, Republic, with Elder Jim Nordyke officiating. Burial followed in Wade Chapel Cemetery, Republic. Ariana Elane Norem
Ariana Elane Norem, 11-month-old daughter of Chaz R. and Angela N. (Lissoni) Norem, LaRussell, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, in Children's Hospital, St. Louis. She was born Sept. 26, 2008, in Springfield. Survivors include her parents; maternal grandmother Connie Johnson, Strafford; paternal grandmother Terri Norem, Mt. Vernon; paternal grandparents Darwin and Janice Norem, Golden City; paternal grandparents Robyn and Ken Dittmer, Ash Grove; maternal great-grandparents, Donna Shelly, and Judy and Owen Long, all of Springfield; paternal great-grandfather Harry Terrill, Hampton, Iowa; and paternal great-grandmother Vera Norm, Ackley, Iowa. She was preceded in death by maternal grandfather Rusty Johnson; maternal great-grandfather Rick Woolery; paternal great-grandmother Helen Terrill; and paternal great-grandfather Edwin Norem. Services were Saturday, Aug. 8, in gthe Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon. Burial was in Red Oak Cemetery, northwest of Mt. Vernon.
John Norman
John Norman, 96, Aurora, died Monday, June 8, 2009, in St. John's Springfield. He was born Sept. 18, 1912, in Marionville to Melford and Reatha Cline Norman. He wa a retired carpenter. Survivors include one son, Jim Norman, Shell Knob. He was preceded in death by his wife, Torres, and one sister, Lora Sodowsky. Services were Wednesday, June 10, in the Elm Branch Christian Church, Aurora. Burial was in Maple Park Cemetery, Aurora, under direction of Peterson Funeral Chapel, Aurora.
Dennis W. Norris
Dennis W. Norris, 65, Chesapeake, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, in his home. Survivors include his soulmate of 10 years, Lynn Norris; three children, Gary Norris, Christina Maggard and Ira Colleen Dunn; three grandchildren, Natasha, Breanna and Jackson; and one great-grandchild, Remi Grace; his mother, Thana Meyers, and stepfather, Everett; two brothers, Tommie and Darrell Norris; special nieces, Kendra and Kayela; many nieces and nephews and cousins and friends. Thank you for them all.
I lost my only true love and best friend. Now there is only a half vessel in me. I will miss Dennis more than life itself - Lynn.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, in the Chesapeake Baptist Church, under direction of peterson Funeral Home, Aurora.
Gary Norris
Gary Norris, 41, Aurora, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, in St. John's Springfield. He was born Feb. 28, 1966, in Mt. Vernon to Dennis and Dorothy Price Norris. Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Norris, Aurora, two brothers, Richard Price, Oklahoma City, and David Price, Denver, Colo.; and two sisters, Deanna and Christina. He was preceded in death by his father. Services were Tuesday, Dec. 18, in the Faith Full Gospel Church, under direction of Peterson Funeral Chapel, Aurora. Burial was in Brookline Cemetery, Brookline. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family, in care of the funeral home.
Dorothy Anne Baum Noyes
Dorothy Anne Baum Noyes, 45, Marionville, died at 3:38 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, in St. John's Springfield. She was born Feb. 17, 1962, in Aurora to John Clifford and Bonnie Kathleen Collier Baum. She was a 1980 graduate of Marionville High School and was an information specialist at Missouri State University, Springfield. She was a member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church, Springfield. She married Daniel Henry Noyes Jr., Nov. 1, 1997, in Springfield. Her mother preceded her in death Jan. 29, 1995. Survivors include her husband, Dan; a son, Travis John Noyes, of the home; a stepdaughter, Cheryl Ann Grady, Nevada, her father, John Baum, Marionville; two brothers, Duane Baum, Aurora, and John David Baum, Marionville; and a step-granddaughter. Services were Friday, Oct. 12, in Williams Funeral Home, Marionville, with the Revs. Kelly Johnston and David Arnsmeyer officiating. Burial was in Marionville IOOF Cemetery.

William Charles Oetker
William Charles Oetker, 72, Aurora, died Sunday morning, Oct. 7, 2007, in his home. He was born Jan. 3, 1935, in Billings. He was a 1952 graduate of Marionville High School and served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He worked in computer management in Ohio and Pennsylvania for 39 years. He later owned and operated a telephone installation business. Upon his retirement in 2002, he returned to southwest Missouri and raised quarter horses. He was a member of Logan Pentecostal Church in Marionville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph Phillip "R.P." and Mary Helen (Eden) Oetker. Surviving are his wife, Glorry; three daughters, Sharon Black, Canton, Ohio, Karen Cox, Fredrick, Md., and Kathy Dascoli, Warrington, R.I.; three stepchildren, Rocky and Ron Willis and Stephanie Schultz, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, Robert Cecil Oetker, Mt. Vernon; and 12 grandchildren. Services were Thursday, Oct. 11, in Marionville First Baptist Church with the Revs. Lee Miller and Mike Cummings officiating. burial, with full military honors by Bravo Team of Springfield, was in Marionville IOOF Cemetery. Williams Funeral Home, Marionville, handled arrangements.
Virginia May O'Neal
Virginia May O’Neal, 92, Springfield, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008
She was born Sept. 10, 1916, in Springfield to Grover P. and Myrtle Jane Noe White Dampf.
She married Clary L. “Bus” O’Neal, Sept. 15, 1939. He survives.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Grover Preston White; one sister, Mildred Bade; and one granddaughter.
Additional survivors include one son, John David O’Neal, Colorado Springs, CO; one daughter, Beverly O’Neal Swearingin, Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Pauline Solomon and Darlene Burch; one brother, William N. White; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were Saturday, Nov. 15, at Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home, Springfield. Burial was in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Springfield.

Wilma Elvira O'Neal
Wilma Elvira O'Neal, 83, Aurora, formerly of Viola, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, in the Aurora Nursing Center.
She was born July 19, 1926, in Desloge, to William Carl and Mary Josephine (McCoy) Eaves. She married Orville Wayne Gann and later married Robert Jackson O'Neal. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Orville.
Survivors include one son, Joseph Wayne Gann, Aurora; one sister, Leona Mikel, Winder, Ga.; one step-brother, Charles F. Rose, St. Louis; and three grandchildren.
She grew up and received her education in St. Louis County at Overland. She graduated in January 1945 from Ritenour High School. In 1964, she moved from St. Louis County to Viola. She worked as a certified nursing assistant at Cox Medical Center and Red Rose Inn, Cassville, before retiring July 1, 1991. She was a member of Viola Baptist Church and later attended Southside Baptist Church in Aurora.
Graveside services were Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Viola Cemetery, Viola, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, with Pastor Bob Gaddis officiating.
Charlotte P. Ormsby
Charlotte P. Ormsby, 62, Aurora died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, in her home.
She was born Oct. 3, 1947, to James and Salina Brisco Pendergrass. She was an Aurora area resident for many years and owned and operated the Star-Lite Drive-In. She was preceded in death by a son, Clinton Ray.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Wayne; sons John and Tad of Aurora; four brothers, Calvin Pendergrass, Jim Pendergrass, Rick Pendergrass and Billy Pendergrass, all of Aurora; two sisters, Sharon Huse and Carolyn Collins, both of Aurora; and five grandchildren.
Services were Saturday, Feb. 20, in Peterson Funeral Chapel, Aurora. Burial was in Maple Park Cemetery.
Joseph A. Ortwein

Joseph A. Ortwein, 86, Aurora, died at 5:20 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at St. John’s Aurora.
He was born March 30, 1920, in Verona to Louis Ortwein and Rose Jirik.
He married Virginia Harrington March 30, 1920, in Verona. She died Oct. 30, 1989.
He was a World War II veteran, serving with the 203rd Coast Artillery.
He retired as an assembler for General Motors and was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Aurora.
Survivors include three sons, Larry and Jerry Ortwein, both of St. Louis, and Mike Ortwein, Aurora; and one daughter, Pernilla Butts, Aurora.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Joyce Ortwein and one brother, Robert Ortwein.
Services are pending, under the direction of Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, Aurora.
Beverly Ann Osterloh
Beverly Ann Osterioh, 75, Freistatt, died Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at home following a long batle with cancer.
She was born May 12, 1934, in rural Pierce City to Alfred and Lydia (Quade) Bremer.
She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Freistatt, and retired postmaster of the Freistatt Post Office. She served as a Braille worker and assisted with the Meals on Wheels program.
She married Orville Osterloh Aug. 23, 1953, in Freistatt. He survives.
Additional survivors include one son, Sam Osterloh, and one daughter, Becky Crandall, both of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Bonnie Worm and Kathy Schoen, and one brother, John Bremer, all of the Monett area; and six grandchildren.
Services were Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Freistatt, with the Rev. Barrett B. Buhmueller officiating, under direction of Buhanan Funeral Home, Monett.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, the local Braille Workers Chapter, or Hospice Compassus of Monett.
Ray Owens
Ray Owens, 85, Mt. Vernon, died Friday evening, Aug. 6, 2010, at Mt. Vernon Place Care Center, Mt. Vernon, following a lengthy illness.  He was born July 20, 1925, in Vendor, Ark., to Bill and Bertha (Royce) Owens.
     He attended school in Mt. Judea, Ark.  He was a laborer, working for the Laborers Union Local #264 for more than 52 years.  He retired from J.E. Dunn Construction.
     He married Vivie Marie Daniels Oct 2, 1945, in Parthenon, Ark.  She survives.
     Additional survivors include one son, Jackie Owens, Sarcoxie; two daughters, Bertha Laurence, Siloam Springs, Ark., and Alice Wheeler, Harrisonville; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
     He was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.  Services were Monday, Aug. 9, at the Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home Chapel, Sarcoxie, with the Rev. Donna Jean Maybee officiating.  Burial was in the Sarcoxie Cemetery.
