Leo Paul Dahlman
Leo Paul Dahlman - 78, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2007, in the Lawrence County Manor, Mt. Vernon.
Leo was born on Dec. 12, 1928, in Lawrence County to Arthur and Reathel (Johnson) Dahlman. Leo attended Takein Elementary School and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1947. He lived in Springfield for the past 33 years, where he was a member and deacon of the South Haven Baptist Church.
While attending the School for the Blind in Little Rock, Ark., he met Robie Jean Gray and they were united in marriage on Feb. 16, 1964, in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Survivors include; his wife, Robbie Jean; his brother and sister-in-law, oe and Kathryn Dahlman; three nieces, Penny Dahlman, Rita Moriondo and husband, Larry, and Nancy Bushman and husband, Dick, four great-nieces and four great-nephews all of Mt. Vernon.
Graveside services, under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, were Friday, March 9, in Maple Park Cemetery, Springfield, with the Rev. Hubert Conway Officiating.
Ernest Wesley Daughterty, 84, Mt. Vernon, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, in the Missouri Veterans' Home/Mt. Vernon. He was born June 14, 1925, in Crane to Leroy and Elnora (Priest) Daugherty. He was a farmer and lifelong resident of the area. He was a United States Navy veteran. Survivors include four sons, Freddie Daugherty, Galena, and Larry Daugherty, California; four daughters, Charlotte Cobbler, Blue Eye, Elizabeth Stewart and Rebecca Brown, both of Monett, and Sarah Carr, Springfield; one sister, Eva Bogdanoff, Springfield; and 11 grandchildren. Graveside services were Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Crane Community Cemetery, with Kevin Stewart officiating, under direction of Manlove-Stumpff Funeral Home, Crane.
Mildred Lucille Daughtrey
She was born April 28, 1923, in Mt. Vernon to Armel Lee (Tommy) and Clara Wooley Samuels. She was educated at White Hall School and the Mt. Vernon school system. She was a 1941 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. She married William Franklin Daughtrey. She worked as a secretary to the Lawrence County superintendent of schools in the 1940’s and was a homemaker. She had survived an earlier bout with cancer.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James Samuels.
Surviving are her son, Gary Daughtrey, Mt. Vernon, a brother, Bobby Samuels, Mt. Vernon ; and three sisters, Sharon Walker, Mt. Vernon, Dorothy Nell Patrick, Springfield, and Barbara Samuels, Tuscon, Ariz.
Graveside services were held Saturday, Dec. 8, at Mt. Vernon IOOF Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Daniel officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lawrence County Manor.
Ruth Elizabeth (Knott) Dawson - 85, Mt. Vernon, died at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, in St. John's Springfield.
She was born June 3, 1921, in Chesapeake to Edward Henry and Lucy Blanche (Goodman) Knott. She graduated from Marionville High School, and was a retired custodian at the Missouri Rehabilitation Center. She was a member of the Heart O' the' Hills Extension Club, a 4-H sewing leader, a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church, Mt. Vernon.
She married Ernest Rufus Dawson Feb. 4, 1941, in Chesapeake. He died Nov. 22, 2005.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Lockhart, Mt. Vernon; three sons, Gene Dawson, Mt. Vernon, Robert Dawson, Strafford, and Edward Dawson, Miller; one sister, Dorothy Pyle, Mt. Vernon; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Clifford Henry Knott, and one grandchild. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 1, in First Baptist Church, Mt. Vernon, with the Rev. Dennis Zmek officiating. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery, northeast of Mt. Vernon, under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon.Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, in the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Endowment Fund, in care of the funeral home.
Merrill Albert Ditzler – 94, Mt. Vernon, died at 7:29 p.m. Sunday Jan. 7, 2997, in the Lawrence County Manor, Mt. Vernon. He was born Aug. 2, 1912, in Pearl City, Ill., to Albert C. and Louisa (Tollemeier) Ditzler.
He was a retired foreman for the General Manufacturing Company, a 50-year member of the Moose Lodge in Rockford, Ill., and a 30 -year member of the Masonic Daylight Lodge #79 in Rosewell, N.M. He also served as a mason for more than 50 years and was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Roswell, N.M.He married Marjorie Backus June 9, 1946, in Lancaster, Wisc. She died March 4 1996.Survivors include one son, Dan Ditzler, Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Lorraine Potts, Libertyville, Ill., and Arlene Noel, Rockford, Ill.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters.Memorial services will be held at a later date in Pearl City, Ill. Local arrangements were under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon.
Dorothy May Conway-Hall-Dixon
Dorothy May Conway-Hall-Dixon, 94, Mt. Vernon, departed this life at 9:10 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, in her residence surrounded by her loved ones.
Dorothy was born Sept. 23, 1912, in Omaha, Neb., to John Henry and Bertha (Trachsel) Smith. She accepted Jesus at an early age and served him faithfully everyday of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the first Baptist Church, Mt. Vernon.
She is survived by her children: Wayne Conway and wife, Nan. Mt. Vernon, Wylene Sage and husband John, Louisville, Ky., Hubert Conway and wife Charlotte, Mt. Vernon, and Dorcas Powers and husband L.B., St. Louis; three stepdaughters, Margaret Neal, Chantey, Tenn., Vivian Walters, Pierce City, and Phyllis Close, Springfield; and a multitude of grand-children, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Her parents, husbands, Truman Conway, Roy Hall and Glenn Dixon, and two brothers,Arnold Smith and Alex Smith preceded her in death.
Services under direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, in First Baptist Church, Mt. Vernon, with the Rev. Hubert Conway and Dr. Bruce McNeely officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Prairie Cemetery, Halltown.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday Aug. 23, in the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or the Billy Graham Crusade, in care of the funeral home.

Max G. Duffy & Yvonne Duffy Senia - Mt Vernon, - Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2007, in Miller Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Miller, for Max G. Duffy and his sister, Yvonne Duffy Senia.
Max is survived by his wife, Mary Duffy; and three children, Misty Warren, Mark Duffy and Miles Duffy.
Yvonne is survived by her husband, Rocco; and four children, Steve Cox, New Mexico, and Vickie Lynn Barthel, Danny Cox and Rob Cole, all of Louisiana.
Also surviving are two sisters, Kay Meyers, Miller, and Phyllis Hunt, Dallas, Texas; and one stepbrother, Gerald Gardner, Miller.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Ronnie Raymond Dunlap - 40, Mt. Vernon, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, from injuries sustained in a go-cart accident. He was born May 22, 1968, in Santa Maria, CA to Ronnie and Shirley (Wright) Dunlap. He worked as a repairman for Town and Country Power Center in Mt. Vernon and attended Summit Baptist Church, Mt. Vernon.Survivors include two sons, “R.J.” and Johnnie Dunlap, one sister, Tammy Totten and his stepfather, Bud Trueman, all of Miller.His parents preceded him in death.Services were Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Fosset-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon.Memorial donations may be made to the family, in care of the funeral home.
