Ransom Asbury Ellis Jr.

Ransom Asbury Ellis Jr., 92, Springfield, MO - Obituary -  Ransom Asbury Ellis Jr., died Sunday, April 8, 2012.  He was born Jan. 18, 1920, in Leann to Ransom Asbury an Mary Susan (Akin) Ellis.  He grew up in the Clay Hill area of Barry County.  He attended the one room Clay Hill school through eighth grade.  He attended Aurora High School, where he graduated as valedictorian of the Class of 1936.
     He attended Missouri State University.  He was a member of the band of the Aurora National Guard Regiment.  The regiment was called to active duty prior to the beginning of World War II.  He was accepted into Officer Candidate School and after graduation, entered the Army Air corps.  He was discharged from active duty in January 1946.
     He graduated rom the University of Missouri School of Law in December 1948, and began practicing law in Springfield.  He retired Jan. 1, 2010, after 61 years of practicing law.
     He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Joan (Anderson) Ellis; three brothers, Loyd Romero Ellis, Royle Goldman Ellis and Linus Lyle Ellis; two sisters, Fama Lorraine Ellis and Itris Lucille Eubanks; and one granddaughter.
     Survivors include his wife Frances Dye Ellis; two sons, Ransom A. Ellis III and Christopher Anderson Ellis; three stepchildren, Alan Dye, Jennifer Barnes and Lesley Dales; two grandsons; and six step-grandchildren.
     Services were April 14 at King's Way United Methodist Church, Springfield.  Private interment was at Evergreen cemetery, Republic, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Springfield.
