These Obituaries are reprinted from The Lawrence County Record, which is Mt. Vernon, MO hometown newspaper. The newspaper, published once a week includes the weekly deaths of Lawrence County residents & their families. In an effort to maintain Mt. Vernon, MO Genealogy I have only reprinted the Mt. Richard Arthur Calvelage
Richard Arthur Calvelage, 87, Mt. Vernon, MO, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, at the Missouri Veterans' Home / Mt. Vernon.
He was born Aug. 11, 1920, outside Ft. Jennings, Ohio, to Henry and Veronica Calvelage.
He owned a small butcher shop and meat locker rental facility before joining the Army. He served in the 10th Mountain Division in Italy during World War II, and was awarded the Bronze Star.
He married Elizabeth Steinberger Nov. 8, 1951. They lived in Lima, Ohio, where they owned a farm. In 1976, he retired and moved his family to Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth and three siblings.
Survivors include his children, Barbara Sederburg, Springfield, and John Calvelage, Billings; and two granddaughters.
Services were Saturday, Dec. 22, at Greenlawn East Funeral Home, Springfield. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Lawrence Allen "Larry" Calvert
Lawrence Allen "Larry" Calvert of Mt. Vernon, MO passed away at 3:41 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2009, in St. John's Springfield, at the age of 69.
He was born Dec. 17, 1939, in East St. Louis, Ill., the son of Dwight C. and Esther (Jakowski) Calvert.
Larry was a 1958 graduate of Ritenour Senior High School. He was an auto technician and retired in 2002. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #4362. On Aug. 4, 1982, he married Helen Still in Clayton. She survives him of the home.
Additional survivors include; four daughters, Chris Brinson and husband Bob of St. Louis, Cheryl Caris and husband Phil of Findlay, Ohio, Carleen Marsala of St. Louis, and Cindy Richard and husband Ken of Brighton, Tenn.; one stepdaughter, Michelle Schaedler and husband Keith of Mt. Vernon; one son, Curt Calvert and wife Teri of Perryville; one stepson, Kenny Brown of Elsberry; one sister, Cheri Mikkelson and Husband Dean of Mt. Vernon; one brother Dennis Calvert and wife Karel of Myra, Texas; 22 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. His parents, sister Judith Oldfather, and brother Cyril Dwight Calvert preceded him in death.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 1, in Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 30, in the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home.

Kenneth Ray "Wolfie" Calvin
Jackson Owen Cameron
Jackson Owen Cameron - Son of Heather and Derick Cameron, was stillborn Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007Kenneth Ray "Wolfie" Calvin, age 67, Mt. Vernon, MO, passed away at 11:29 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at his home. He was born April 17, 1943, in Lawrence County, the son of Jesse F. and Marie (Duncan) Calvin.
Kenneth attended the Bowers Mill School, a one-room schoolhouse, through the eight grade. He was a 1961 graduate of Miller High School, and served in the United States Army National Guard in Monett from 1962 to 1969. Kenneth owned and operated a dairy farm in the Mt. Vernon community, and was a certified welder. He was a member of the first Presbyterian Church of Mt. Vernon, past president of the Mt. Vernon FFA Alumni, a 4-H leader for 20 years and president of the double M Farmers' Co-op board.
On Nov. 20, 1965, he married Marilyn Perteet in Las Vegas, Nev., and she survives of the home.
Additional survivors include three children, Kenda Ogle and her husband, Russell, of Sarcoxie, Mark Calvin of Wichita, Kan., and Kenlee Calvin and his wife, Sarah, of Golden City; three grandchildren, Bryce and Lani Ogle nad Donald Calvin of Springfield, Stanley Calvin of Sarcoxie, Sammy Calvin of Joplin and Walter Calvin of Mt. Vernon; and five sisters, Wilma Cleous of Garden Plain, Kan., Wanda Smith of Carthage, Dorothy Kelly of Kansas City, Marlene Kloack of Hot Springs Village, Ark., and Sharon Calvin of Monett. His Parents and one brother, J.T. Calvin, preceded him in death.
Kenneth was respected for is kindness and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service, under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, was held Tuesday, Oct. 26, at the First Presbyterian Church, located in Mt. Veron, with burial following at the Salem Cemetery, Mt. Vernon, Memorial donations may be made to the Children's Miracle Network, in care of the funeral home.

Jackson Owen Cameron
Survivors include one brother, Kaiden; maternal grandparents, Floyd and Brenda Stewart; paternal grandmother, Krista Dark; and great-grandmother, Carol LaFave.
Ronald Lee Carnes Sr.
Ronald Lee Carnes Sr., 74, Mt. Vernon, MO, formerly of Burlington, Iowa, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis.
He was born May 21, 1933, in La Harpe, Ill., to John Carnes and Doris Jewell Ferguson.
He married Joyce Joanne Sherman in Springfield in 1955. He married Nila Jean Gulick Dec. 4, 1971, in Middletown, Iowa.
He attended school in La Harpe and Burlington an received his high school diploma in 1978.
He joined the United States Marine Corps Nov. 1, 1949, and was a corporal serving in the Korean War, Inchon Landing, the Communist China Aggression and the First United Nations Counter Offensive. He received a Good conduct Medal Dec. 31, 1952, and received an honorable discharge in January 1953. He worked at Champion Spark Plug and retired after 33 years as a quality control inspector.
He held many offices in the Burlington Area Bowlers Association and was inducted into the Burlington Area Bowlers Hall of Fame. He also held the office of Iowa State Senior Bowling Association secretary.
In 1993, he moved to the San Diego, Calif., area where he lived for 11 years. While in San Diego, he received a heart transplant. He moved to Mt. Vernon in 2004, after his wife retired.
He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Mt. Vernon.
Survivors include his wife, Nila Carnes, Mt. Vernon; one son, Ronald Carnes Jr., Burlington; one daughter, Cathy Vanover, West Burlington; two stepsons, Jack Gulic, Rockledge, Fla., and Brian Gulick, Davenport, Iowa; two sisters, Joanne Mescher, Knoxville, Ill., and Beverly Myers, Carman, Ill.; one brother Lavern Mitchell, Carthage, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by one son, Bradley Allen Carnes; two sisters, Betty Forquer and Jeanette Rorie, and two brothers, John Henry Carnes and Robert Earnest Carnes.
Services were Friday, Sept. 14, in Lunning Chapel, Burlington, with the Rev. Jack Daniel officiating. Burial, with full military rites, was in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Eura Dee Carter
Eura Dee Carter, 101, Mt. Vernon, MO, died at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, in the Lawrence County Manor, Mt. Vernon.She was born June 11, 1905, in Centertown, Ky., to John T. and Katie C. (Tichenor) Mason.She taught school in Stone County. Later, she worked in a sewing factory in Republic and helped with the family farm. She made many quilts by hand.She married Warren W. Carter in March 1928 in Ozark. He died Jan. 25, 1986.She was also preceded in death by one infant daughter; one son, Joe Carter, two sisters, Jessie Mallonee and Wilda Parker; one brother, Ralph Mason; two granddaughters, one grandson, and one great-grandson.Survivors include four sons, Clyde and Mack Carter, both of Neosho, Frank Carter, O’Fallon, Ill, and Bert Carter, Raytown; one sister, Mayme Fore, Belleville, Ill., one half-brother, Clifford Mason, Branson; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.Burial was Wednesday, Jan. 10 in Rock Prairie Cemetery, Halltown.Claudia Dayle Chapman
Claudia Dayle Chapman passed away Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007.
She was born Nov. 10, 1937, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Robert and Claudia Chapman. She was a resident of Oklahoma City and Edmond for the majority of her life. She had recently moved to Mt. Vernon.
Claudia is survived by her three sons, Steven L. Huddleston and wife Toni, Mt. Vernon, R. Gary Huddleston and wife Terri, Edmond, Okla., and R. Dale Huddleston and wife Sandra, Oklahoma City; and five grandchildren, Alisha and Meghan of Mt. Vernon, R. Justis of Edmond, and Zachary and Ashlee of Oklahoma City.
Memorial donations on her behalf may be made to the Humane Society or Free to Live.
Wallace J. Chiravalle
Wallace J. Chiravalle, 80, Mt. Vernon, MO, died at 2:50 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2007, in his residence.He was born Oct. 16, 1926, in Linden, N.J., to James and Ida (Eisenzopf) Chiravalle. He was a World War II United States Navy veteran and was a decaf operator for Tanco Coffee and Tea Company.
He married Muriel Roy June 20, 1948, in Westfield, N.J. She died May 16, 2004.
Survivors include three daughters, Catherine Ebbe and Irene Hardy, Roselle, N.J. and June Maclulewicz, Edgewater, Fla.; three sons, Wallace P. Chiravalle, Coral Springs, Fla., David V. Chiravalle, Phillipsburg, N.J., and James J. Chiravalle, Melbourne, Fla.; one brother, William Chiravalle, New Jersey; and one sister, Teresa Patrowicz, Monroe Township, N.J.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ruth Muriel; one sister, Rose Marie Chiravalle; and three brothers, Joseph, Vincent and John Chiravalle.
Graveside services were Saturday, April 14, in the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery, with the Rev. Dennis Zmek officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon.
Alta "Tone" Choate
Alta "Tone" Choate - 86, Mt. Vernon, MO, passed away at 2:14 a.m., Thursday, May 3, 2007, in Cox South Hospital, SpringfieldTone was born on Oct. 9, 1920, in Miller to Floyd and Fern (Gulick) Lewis. Tone was a lifetime resident of the Mt. Vernon community, where she owned and operated Tone's Beauty Shop from 1966 until she retired in 1986. She was also a homemaker and was a member of the Mt. Vernon Christian Church.
On Jan. 20, 1940, she married Wallace Choate in Mt. Vernon. He preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 1972.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda (Choate) Threet and husband Ray, Mt. Vernon; one grandson, Scott Wick and wife Essica, Shakopee, Minn.; two great-granddaughters, Aidyn and Reyna Wick; a special foster sister, Bea Tolleson, Mt. Vernon; foster daughter, Linda Carol Price, Pierce City; and a host of relatives and friends.
Her parents and two sisters, Ruby West and Pansy Moore Bingham, preceded her in death.
Services were Sunday, May 6, in Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, with Mark Engler officiating. Burial was in Miller Memorial Gardens.

Francisca "Cisca" Claas
Francisca "Cisca" Claas, 78, Mt. Vernon, MO, passed away at 8:12 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, in the Lawrence County Manor, Mt. Vernon.
She was born Nov. 3, 1928, in Rotterdam, Holland, daughter of Jan and Francisca (Kouwenberg) Kasteele.
Francisca moved to the United States after World War II and to Mt. Vernon in 2000 to be near family. She attended school to learn English and worked as an office manager for McCrory Department Stores. Although "Cisca" was not a member of a church, she attended services held by King's Way Christian Church at the nursing home and thoroughly enjoyed them.
She is survived by two sons, Carl Claas and wife Jane, Mt. Vernon, and Frans Van Driesten and wife Marjan, Holland; grandson, Patrick McCann and wife, Jodie, Mt. Vernon; and great-granddaughter Mikayla Powell.
Her parents, son Thomas George Claas, two brothers, Jan and Antonius Kasteele, and one sister, Anna C. Kasteele, preceded her in death.
A memorial service was held at the Lawrence County Manor Friday, Sept. 28, under direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to King's Way Christian Church, First Presbyterian Church or Feed and More or Dake Veterinary Clinic for care of animals by Mr. and Mrs. Chester Herzberger.
Barbara J. "Bobby" Clapp
Barbara J. "Bobby" Clapp, 71, Mt. Vernon, MO, died at 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, in her home.
She was born Dec. 2, 1935, in McDonald County to Iassic and Bessie (Harned) Thomas.
She worked as a bookkeeper for the family heating and air conditioning company and the antique mall in Mt. Vernon.
She married Glenn Clapp in September 1953 in Fort Bliss, Texas. He survives.
Additional survivors include one daughter, Glenna Quigley, San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Pat; one half-brother, Larry; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Claude, Earl and Harold.
Memorial services were Monday, Nov. 26, in Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon.
Eva Marie (Kinney) Cohu
Eva Marie (Kinney) Cohu, 92, Mt. Vernon, MO, died Saturday, Jan 27, 2007, at St. John's, Aurora.She was born in Jasper County, near Carthage, June 30, 1914, to Glen and Matilda (Warden) Kinney. She lived most of her life in Newton County. The last seven years were spent in Mt. Vernon.
She graduated in 1831 from Sarcoxie High School and attended Teachers College in Springfield, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught in several one-room rural schools in Jasper and Newton counties. She completed her bachelor's degree from Missouri State University in 1956 and received a master's degree in 1966 from Pittsburg State University. She retired from the Diamond School District in 1978, after completing 37 years of teaching.
She was a past member and president of Delta Kappa Gamma, Diamond BPW and the Newton County Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the West Union Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dana Joy; five brothers, Joe, Lee, Robert, Basil and Lloyd Kinney; and one sister, Lila Ferguson.
Survivors include two sons, Steve Cohu, Mt. Vernon, and Alvin Cohu, Rancho Palso Verdes, Calif.; four grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at Clark Chapel of Memories Neosho, with Larry Carlisle officiating. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, northeast of Diamond.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb 1, at the funeral home. Family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Lovelle Jones Coleman
Lovelle Ophelia Irene (Jones) Coleman, 70, Mt. Vernon, MO, passed away at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, in her residence after a short illness.
She was born on Dec. 10, 1937, to Russell and Faye (Stroup) Stephenson in Kansas City. She graduated from Emmanuel Wood High School in Indianapolis, Ind., in 1956 and from Trinity Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing, Kansas City, in 1959. she worked as a registered nurse at the Missouri Rehabilitation Center, Mt. Vernon, for 33 years, including 21 years in the operating room. She was member of the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ.
On April 6, 1996, she married Lee Coleman in Mt. Vernon. He survives the home.
Additional survivors include one son, Johnathan Jones and wife Alice; three granddaughters of the home, Jessica, Jennifer and Lydia of Ridgecrest, Calif., one granddaughter, Julia Brownell, one great-granddaughter, and two great-grandsons, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; two step-sisters, Connie Melbourne, Indianapolis , Ind., and Beverley Christenson, state of California; one sister-in-law, Betty Stephenson, Raymore; several nieces and nephews and many, many hosts of friends.
Her parents, first husband of 35 years, James L. Jones, daughter Christine Jones Bassett, one brother and one sister, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 31, in the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, with Bob Kirkley officiating. Burial was in Marionville IOOF Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Foundation Cancer Research or St. Jude's Children's Hospital, in care of the funeral home.
Lewis P. Collins
Lewis P. Collins, 82, Mt. Vernon, MO, died at 2:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, in Joplin Health and Rehabilation Center.
He was born Aug. 18, 1925, in Springdale, Ark., to Harvey A. and Anna (Pfaff) Collins. He was a Army veteran of World War II and a retired truck driver.
He married Joann Brecht April 5, 1950, in Americus, Kan. She died Oct. 17, 1993.
Survivors include one daughter, Annie Collins-Ivey, Houston, Texas; three sons, Stephen Collins, Joplin, and twin sons, Mark Collins, Ft. Smith, Ark., and Ronnie Collins, Tulsa, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Joe Wade Colton
Joe Wade Colton - 86, Mt. Vernon, MO, died Friday, March 9, 2007He was born Oct. 6, 1920 in Lebanon.He married Mary Louise Weaver Oct. 3, 1942. She died in 2001He served during World War II from Sept. 10, 1942, until Nov. 6, 1945. He received his military training at Cap White and Camp Adairin Oregon and served in North Africa and Italy with the 316th Combat Engineer Battalion, 91st Infantry Division. He served 277 days on the front lines. He was promoted to corporal and was responsible for driving supplies to the division's front lines. He was awarded three Bronze Stars.He served as president of the Grovespring School Board for 15 years. He was active in the Grovespring Lions Club for 46 years. He was a charter member and held a lifetime membership. In 2005, he was awarded the International President's Certificate of Appreciation for this achievements in leadership and service. One of his achievements was to help start the Grovespring Volunteer Fire Department.He and his wife had a trucking business for 36 years and also owned and operated a laundry in Grovespring until thier retirement. He was contracted for 11 years by the MFA Teleauction at Marshall. He was a member of the first Christian Church (Diciples of Christ), Mt. Vernon.Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Stratton, Edinburg, Texas, Pamela Dickinson, Springfield, and Karen Millsap, Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, in Day Funeral Home, Marshfield, with the Rev. Jack Daniel officiating. Burial will be in the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery, Springfield.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grovespring Lions Club.
Berniece Compton
Berniece Compton, 88, Mt. Vernon, MO, died at noon Tuesday. Dec. 4, 2007, in her home.
She was born Feb. 9, 1919 in Dade County to Joseph Earl and Mollie Dorcas (Carl) Shook. She was a retired registered nurse, homemaker and member of the First United Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon.
She married Jim Compton June 4, 1949. He survives.
Additional survivors include one daughter, Mary Carver, Savannah, Ga.; two brothers, Bill Shook, Strafford, and Gerald Shook, Davenport, Iowa; two grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
Services were Friday, Dec. 7, in the First United Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon, with the Rev. Chris Snyder officiating. Burial was in Pennsboro Cemetery, under direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon.

Helen Madeline Comstock
Helen Madeline Comstock, 98, Mt. Vernon, MO, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 10:20 a.m. Friday, April 16, 2010, at Mt. Vernon Place Care Center, Mt. Vernon.
She was born Dec. 29, 1911, in King City, the daughter of Tilman and Pearl (DeWeese) Pittsenbarger. She was the last surviving child of seven sisters and two brothers. On April 20, 1930, she married Glen Allen Comstock in Joplin and they spent 57 years together, making a living on the farm.
Helen was famous for her homemade bread and vegetable soup and never failed to minister to the sick and needy with the produce and flowers from her gardens. She loved her Lord and Savior, gardening, quilting, embroidery and working on the farm. She always saw the good in everyone and had a wonderful sense of humor. Helen was dearly loved by all her family and everyone who ever knew her. She was a lifelong member of the Ozark Prairie "Brick" Presbyterian Church.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Margaret Ann Samuels and her husband, Bobby, of Mt. Vernon; her son, Glen David Comstock and his wife, Judy, of Topeka, Kan.; her grandchildren, Jane Ann, Allen, Joyce, Jason and Emily and her husband Mike Marusiak; and six great-grandchildren. Her parents, husband and all of her siblings preceded her in death.
Funeral services were Tuesday, April 20, at the Ozark Prairie "Brick" Presbyterian Church. She was buried next to her husbnd at the Ozark Prairie Cemetery.
A special thank you to all of the staff at the Mt. Vernon Place Care Center, who loved and cared for our mother so well during her last years.

Fernetta Elizabeth Conner
Fernetta Elizabeth Conner - 74, Mt. Vernon, MO, died at 5:38 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2007, in the Lawrence County Manor, Mt. Vernon.
She was born May 4, 1932, in El Dorado Springs to James Lindsey and Glennie Golden (Sherman) Conner. She worked for the White Swan Laundry in El Dorado Springs and was a member of the Mt. Vernon First Baptist Church.
There are no immediate survivors.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Conner and an infant brother.
Graveside services were Tuesday, March 6, in the Hazel Dell Cemetery. El Dorado Springs, with the Rev. Dennis Zmek officiating, under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon.

Jerry Cook
Jerry Cook of Mt. Vernon, MO passed away at 12:50 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, in his home, at the age of 66.
He was born March 24, 1942, in Logan to Eldon Howard and Claudia (Dunham) Cook. Jerry was a 1960 graduate of Marionville HIgh School, was a member of the Marionville First Baptist Church and employed as a mechanic for Silgan Manufacturing Company in Mt. Vernon for 30 years.
He married Judith Ann Yost July 16, 1982, in Mt. Vernon. She survives him of the home.
Also surviving him are his four daughters, Jerrilyn Cantrell of Excelsior Springs, Karen Porter of Olathe, Kan., Wendy Cook-Mucci of Nashville, Tenn., and Stacie Danzer of Carroll, Iowa; one son, James Breidenstein of Mt. Vernon; three sisters, Kay Herndon, Marionville, Sara Fugitt of Springfield, and Kathy Roller of Bruner; three brothers, Roger Cook of Shawnee, Kan., Larry Cook of Marionville and Braxton Cook of Belton; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchrildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His parents and one brother, Ronnie Cook, preceded him in deaeth.
Services, under direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, were Monday, Feb. 16, in Marionville First Baptish Church. Burial was in Marionville IOOF Cemetery.
Memorial donations are suggested to the family for a memorial in the memory of Mr. Cook, in care of the funeral home.

Anna Mae (Smith) Cotten
Anna Mae (Smith) Cotten - 93, of Mt. Vernon, MO, died Monday morning, May 21, 2007, at Elfindale Manor in Springfield. Anna Mae was born July 1, 1912 in Lawrence County. the daughter of Walter Scott Smith and Nora Anise (McKinney) Smith. She was a member of a pioneer family. Her father's family came from South Carolina to Lawrence County in a seven-wagon train.
Anna Mae graduated from Mt. Vernon High School and held undergraduate degrees in Education and Social Work and a graduate degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Missouri. She was a classroom teacher for the reuisite six years and completed 14 years as counselor at Mt. Vernon High school, retiring in 1978.
She was a longtime member and president of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter ER, and a member of the First Christian Church, Mt. Vernon, since 1924.
She and Julius Howser Cotten were married in 1938. He died in 1992 after 54 years of marriage. Anna Mae is survived by their only chld, Anise Cotten Pendleton and her husband, Dick, of springfield; and his daughters, Tracy Myrick, Sally Phillips and Sheri Law and their families includeing five great-grandchildren, her beloved dog, Missy, and many cherished friends and former students.
Memorial services will be held at the First Christian Church in Mt. Vernon at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 24. There will be no visitation. Private burial, under direction of Fossett-Mosher Fuerneal Home, will be in the IOOF Cemetery, Mt. Vernon.

Dwight Edward Coulson
Dwight Edward Coulson, 87, Mt. Vernon, MO, died at 1:20 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009 in Cox South, Springfield. He had resided at the Missouri Veterans' Home/Mt. Vernon.
He was born Nov. 28, 1921, in rural Houston, Minn., to Charles Edward and Lydia Belle (Corey) Coulson.
He attended school in Minnesota and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1942. While serving in the Marines, he survived one of the worst shellings in Marine Corps history as 14 inch shells were hurled at them from Japanese battleships. He endured three months of constant combat defending Henderson Field. He then went to th Mojave Desert and trained as a gunner and radioman on the SBD dive-bomber. He went on to fly more than 50 missions in Bouganville and on to the Philippines and was shot down once, landing in American Territory.
He married Patricia Ann Corey Nov. 24, 1945, in Ridgeway, Minn. She preceded him in death.
He had many odd jobs before starting his own construction company in the late "50's". He retired in 1984 and helped his daughter run a horse farm.
Survivors include two daughters, Maureen Christopher, Marshfield, and Barbara Jungblut, Bellevue, Iowa; one son, Thomas Charles Coulson, Dubuque, Iowa; one sister, Carol Beth Thompson, Houston, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, David and Joseph Coulson, and two sisters, Dorothy Chape and June Eaton.
Memorial services will be held at Money Creek Cemetery, Houston, Minn., at a later date. Local arrangements have been under direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral HOme, Mt. Vernon.
Donald L. "Don" Craig
Donald L. "Don" Craig, 76, Mt. Vernon, MO, died at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009,at the Missouri Veteran' Home/Mt. Vernon.
He was born May 9, 1932, in Webb City to Russell and Edna Scantlin Craig.
He was a nursing assistant in Mt. Vernon. Previously, he had worked as a technician at Eagle Picher. He grew up in the Prosperity area and was a lifelong area resident.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He married Terri (Denno) Craig. She survives.
Additional survivors include one son, Don Craig, Oronogo; three daughters, Joann Clark, Tulsa, Okla., Colette Robertson, Carthage, and Michele Day, Monett; one sister, Judy Anderson, Willamina, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Craig, and one granddaughter.
Services were Friday, Feb. 13, at Simpson Funeral Home, Webb City, with the Rev. Ken Ansley officiating. Burial, with full military honors, was at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ Church of Oronogo building fund or the Alzheimer's Association.
Jason Kristoffer Creasy
Jason Kristoffer Creasy, 33, Mt. Vernon, MO, died at 9:35 a.m. Saturday. Feb. 3, 2007, in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Nov. 12, 1973, in San Jose, Calif., to Kerry and Donna (Finley) Creasy. He was a general laborer and of the Baptist faith.
He married Dana Pietsch Sept. 15, 1995, in Monett. She survives.
Additional survivors include one daughter, Emilee Creasy, Monett; two sons, Kerry and Ashdon Creasy, both of Monett; his mother, Donna Ingram, Great Britain, Scotland; his father Kerry Creasy, Altanta, Ga.; three sisters, Jessica Creasy, Los Angeles, Calif., Angeline Creasy, Atlanta Ga., and Ashley Ingram, Great Britain, Scotland; paternal grandparents, Vitiz and Donals Jones, Mt. Vernon; and maternal grandfather, Donald Finley, California.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Mikey Creasy; his paternal grandfather, Wallace Creasy; and maternal grandmother, Jan Hogle.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, in Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon. Burial will follow in Collins Cemetery, Lockwood.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, in the funeral home.
Andrew F. "Andy" Culbertson
Andrew F. "Andy" Culbertson, 85, Mt. Vernon, MO, died at 8:15 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2010, at the Missouri Veterans' Home/Mt. Vernon. He was born Feb. 23, 1925, in Pomona to John and Bertha (Eubanks) Culbertson. He was a United States Army Veteran and a farmer. He married Sandra Kay Cook April 8, 1960, in Pomona. She survives.
Additional survivors include one son, Mark Culbertson, Mt. Vernon; two brothers, George Culbertson, Port Allen, La., and John Culbertson, Waynesville, two sisters, Emma Havens, Waynesville, and Marylou Mullaney, Millsboro, Del.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Graveside services, with full military honors, were Tuesday, May 4, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, under direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon.
