These Obituaries are reprinted from The Lawrence County Record, which is Mt. Vernon, MO hometown newspaper. The newspaper, published once a week includes the weekly deaths of Lawrence County residents & their families. In an effort to maintain Mt. Vernon, MO Genealogy I have only reprinted the Mt. Vernon Deaths. I will list these alphabetically and I will add to these on a regular basis so be sure to check back often.

Laura Wanda Lampe
Laura Wanda Lampe, 94, Mt. Vernon, died Thursday, June 28, 2007.
She was born Nov. 1, 1912, in Freistatt to John W. And Ida A. Krueger lampe.
She was a homemaker, farmer and served as church secretary for many years. She was a member of the Trinity Luthern Church and the Ladies Aid.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin and Arthur Lampe.
Services were Monay, July 2, at Trinity Luthern Church, Freistatt, with Pastor Wilbur Claude officiating. Burial ws in Trinity Lutheran hurch Cemetery, u nder direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
Mary Margaret Lee
Mary Margaret Lee, 86, Mt. Vernon, died Saturday, April 3, 2010, in the Missouri Veteran's Home/Mt. Vernon, where she had been a resident since Januray 2008.
She was born Nov. 8, 1923, in Springfield to Roy and Florence (Alexander) Sullens. She grew up in Marionville and was a 1941 graduate of Marionville High School. She joined the Marine Corps Feb. 1, 1944. She was stationed at Parris Island, S.C. until being honorably discharged in March 1946. She returned to Marionville and married John P. Lee Aug. 3, 1947. He preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by one son, John Jay Lee, and one brother, James Sullens.
Survivors include one daughter, Vicki Fischer; one sister, Dorothy Atwell; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, at Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, Aurora. Burial will be in Lee Cemetery, Verona.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Relay For Life, Hospice Compassus, Lee Cemetery, or the charity of the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.
Dr. Clarence Melvin "Mel" Lewis
Dr. Clarence Melvin “Mel” Lewis – Mt. Vernon, 75, formerly of Fresno, Calif., passed away at 8:44 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007.
He was born Dec. 27, 1931, in Plattsburg to Clarence H. and Della G. (Twitty) Lewis.
Mel was known to all as a gentle and loving husband, father, friend and physician. He loved people and enjoyed talking with them and learning about their lives. As a doctor he took time for the patients to tell him about themselves. The Lord gave him wisdom and guidance for the thousands of folks for whom he was their family doctor praying with them. They in turn loved and respected him. Because he loved the Lord and trusted Him, he now is truly home with his Lord. Our earthly loss is heaven's gain. He leaves a tremendous legacy and will be missed.
Dr. Lewis retired after 45 years as a physician in 2005. He had a practice in Fresno, Calif., and Mt. Vernon. He was a United States Air Force veteran, serving in the Korean War, and a member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church, Mt. Vernon.
On June 9, 2007, he and wife Nora (Stegall) celebrated their 50th anniversary. They were married June 9, 1967, in Pontotoc, Miss. She survives him of the home.
He is also survived by his children, Valerie Lawrence and husband Todd, Republic, and John Lewis and wife Marcie, Fresno; grandchildren Jack and Sarah Lawrence, Brett Allen and Brittany Lewis; two uncles and several cousins.
His parents and stillborn son, Samuel James Lewis, preceded him in death.
Services, under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct, 24, in the First Baptist Church Mt. Vernon. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Missouri Veterans' Cemetery, Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church endowment fund, or Mt. Vernon Emergency Services for Children, in care of the funeral home.

Melvin Charles Lobin
Melvin Charles Lobin, 82, Mt. Vernon, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010. He was a resident of Autumn Court Residental Center, Mt. Vernon. He was born Aug. 7, 1927, in St. Louis to Helen and Oscar Lobin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna "Louise," and one brother, Oscar Jr.
Survivors include four children, George Michael Lobin, Springfield, Stanley Charles Lobin, Carthage, Cynthia Lynn Baine, Joplin, and Pamela Ann Haworth, Nixa; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were Monday, March 29, at Springfield National Cemetery, under direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.

Floyd C. Louden
Floyd C. Louden, 90, Mt. Vernon, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at the Missouri Veterans' Home/Mt. Vernon. He was born May 31, 1918, in Sarcoxie to William and Ollie (Pierce) Louden. He lived most of his life in the Diamond area, moving to Mt. Vernon about seven years ago. He attended school at Lakeside School in Carterville. He worked and retired as a machinist from Vicker's in 1980. He was a Christian. He married Rosie Hodson before he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served during World War II. She preceded in death. He then married Minnie Booth. Survivors include two children, Ken Louden, Diamond, and Janet Staggs, Carthage; one sister, Verna Brown, Carthage; and three grandchildren. Graveside services were Friday, Dec. 26, at Park Cemetery, Carthage, under direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Chapel, Joplin.
Everett M. Lyon
Everett M. Lyon, 83, Mt. Vernon, died Monday, April 9, 2007.He was born May 20, 1923, in Wallace Idaho. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Leavenworth, Wash., where he lived until he graduated from high school. After he married Esther Bates, he began working for the Leavenworth FishHatchery. They later relocated to the Seattle area, where he worked as a riveter at Boeing Aircraft for three years. He moved his family to Pilot Rock, Ore., where he spent the next 35 years working at a sawmill.Survivors include his wife, Esther, Mt. Vernon; five children, Wayne Lyon, Warwick, N.Y., Sharon Campbell, Mt. Vernon, David Lyon and Robert Lyon, both of LaGrande, Ore., and Daniel Lyon, Salem, Ore.; one sister, Delores, Dale, Ore.; 19 grandchildern; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.Services were Tuesday April 17, at Apostolic New Testament Church, Mt. Vernon. Burial will be at a later date in Grandview Cemetery LaGrande, Ore. Local arrangements were under direction of Greenlawn North Funeral Home, Springfield.
Otis M. Lytle
Otis M. Lytle – Mt. Vernon, 81, died Sunday, Oct 7, 2007.
He was a former Sarcoxie resident and a retired U.S. Army officer.
Graveside services were Friday, Oct. 12, at Sarcoxie Cemetery under the direction of Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home.
